This week on the Godcast [mp3] we are in conversation with John Horgan, a science journalist who has pushed the boundaries of conventional wisdom with books like The End of Science and The End of War among several others. We called him up because of his unique role in the Chagnon affair, so that we might discuss what happened when he was contacted by Dawkins, Dennett, and Pinker regarding an upcoming book review. We also discussed a wide range of other issues, including the ongoing scientific scuffle between the (generally left-leaning) cultural determinists and the (generally less leftish) genetic determinists. We came away with more than a few insights, and a strong sense that scientists are amply capable of embodying all the usual human foibles.

ReplyDeleteBtw, Chas. Me, you and Damion should record an account of our OPERA experiences. I'll link back to it on my blog.
